Captain Newsletter December 2024
Hello Members,
As we approach the Christmas period, I would like to take this opportunity to share some updates on what’s been happening around the club.
- Marshalling Team – Chris Holmes has kindly volunteered to lead a team of volunteers to assist with marshalling duties. This is fantastic news as our membership reaches capacity. Pace of play remains the number one concern raised by members. With Chris and his team in place, this can only help improve the overall playing experience for everyone. Chris will join the match committee and present a monthly report regarding pace of play and general conduct on the course. Please endeavour to support Chris and his team when you see them out there.
- The Course – We are aware the first tee needs some TLC. We have been awaiting some turf which has been the main delay. The current schedule for these works to be carried out and a few branches trimmed is mid-January.
- Pace of Play Clocks – They are still coming! There’s been a delay in the production line, but member Richie Hewitt assures me the first one will be out for delivery shortly…
- Front Gate and Cart shed – The front gate and cart shed will go to automatic (remote) operation in 2025. The front gate is for the well being of our staff when leaving late at night and the cart shed will allow members to utilise their carts for longer times than currently available. Unfortunately we couldn’t lock in the contractor (pardon the pun) until Monday 17th of February – Post Summer Cup. This will be tied in with the course closure for coring and sanding.
- Drink cart on Saturdays and Major Competitions – I continue to be asked by members about a drinks cart on competition days. We have had a few issues rolling this out, mainly due to connectivity issues and the cart being past its sell by date. These have now been addressed so expect to see the drinks cart this Saturday. If it is well supported, then we will look at adding it to other competition days.
- Changes to Handicap System – Golf Australia have stated they will be modifying how the handicap system is calculated. The changes will come into effect in March 2025. I will post in the new year how these changes will affect.
Continued Growth – 2024 has been another year for growth and success at our club. The strength of our membership is a testament to the quality of our course and the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. From the grounds team ensuring our course is presented in top condition, all our Staff and Volunteers, who contribute to the club’s success, we’re incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated team.
As the year comes to a close, I’d like to thank all our members for their ongoing support. Whether doing the right thing out on the course, volunteering where required or being a friendly member to visiting groups. Every small effort contributes to the welcoming atmosphere we all enjoy at our club.
On behalf of the Match committee, I wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Kind Regards,
Paul
